"Gammaeddhe Kalalaya" July 2026 Programme Breathes New Life into the Roberiya Tamil Village

Under the valuable guidance of the Hon. Chief Secretary of the Uva Province, the "Gammaeddhe Kalalaya" programme organized by the Meegahakiwula Pradeshiya Sabha was successfully and grandly held recently at the Roberiya Tamil village. It turned out to be an extraordinary day that brought the public and the public service together under one roof! This special occasion was attended by the Hon. Chairman of the Meegahakiwula Pradeshiya Sabha, the Secretary, the staff, Hon. Council Members, the OIC of the Madolsima Police Station, the Public Health Inspector, the Medical Officer of the Roberiya Hospital, officers from the Meegahakiwula Divisional Secretariat, principals of surrounding schools, and a large gathering of villagers. Special Highlights of This Year's Programme: Instant Solutions to Public Issues: Aimed at building a transparent public service, the event focused on creating public awareness, identifying community problems, and providing immediate solutions on the spot. A special feature was the introduction of the newly launched "Supilipanna Box" (Transparency Box) to collect valuable ideas and suggestions from the public. Bringing New Light to the Village: As identified through previous discussions, all non-functional street lamps in the Roberiya area were repaired, and new street lamps were installed in essential locations. Roberiya now shines with a new light! A Shramadana Campaign for the Environment: Taking the initial step to turn our scenic "Panchi Lokanthaya" into a plastic-free zone, a massive cleanup campaign was launched with the contribution of office officials. A Fresh Look for the Knowledge Hub: The Pithamaruwa Public Library was painted and given a fresh new look, creating a more welcoming environment for readers.
